View by day and by night depends on location

The new land reclamation will be situated on the western side of the present Maasvlakte. At night, Maasvlakte 2 will emit light. Just as on the current Maasvlakte, work will continue 24/7. The light on Maasvlakte 2 will mainly be due to the container terminals. Due to the type of work, these use powerful lights at great height. The chemical industry also uses light, but this is of a different intensity and colour. No legal standard exists for light emission or visibility, as does exist for noise and air. Nonetheless, the possibilities to reduce the light incidence as far as possible are currently being investigated.

The day and night visibility for the various areas around Maasvlakte 2 is very diverse:

Westvoorne area

Seen from the beach at Westvoorne, Maasvlakte 2 lies hidden behind De Slufter. One of the reasons for this is the intention to maintain the open character of the Haringvliet mouth. De Slufter will be fitted out for nature and recreation in the future.

Goeree area

By day, Maasvlakte 2 is visible from the beach at Goeree. The new land reclamation will be situated on the western side of the present Maasvlakte, at a distance of 12 kilometres. At night, Maasvlakte 2 will be visible due to its light emission, just like the current Maasvlakte.

Schouwen-Duiveland area

Maasvlakte 2 is barely visible by day from Schouwen-Duiveland's western beach. The new land reclamation will be situated on the western side of the present Maasvlakte. This is about 25 kilometres from Schouwen-Duiveland. At night, Maasvlakte 2 will be visible due to its light emission, just like the current Maasvlakte.

Hoek van Holland area

Maasvlakte 2 is not prominently visible from Hoek van Holland or 's-Gravenzande. By day, the land reclamation is mainly hidden behind the current Maasvlakte. At night, Maasvlakte 2 emits light, just like the current Maasvlakte.
