Maasvlakte 2 has consequences for nature and the environment

The economic importance of the port is both clear and great. To do nothing would damage the future of the port and those dependent on it. At the same time, Maasvlakte 2's construction draws upon the quality of life for future generations. It is an intervention into nature, and there will be new industry and environmental impact in an area where there was previously no port activity. For this reason, the Port Authority is making conscious efforts in sustainable development.

The environment, nature and quality of life in the port area have been fully mapped out. All possible effects of the future Maasvlakte 2 have been investigated. They are being minimised and compensated for. It is continuously monitored whether or not and how the expected effects take place. Where necessary, plans are adapted.
