Views toward Maasvlakte 2

During the day, Maasvlakte 2 will be visible from various nearby beaches. The newly reclaimed land will adjoin the western side of the existing Maasvlakte. The visual impact of Maasvlakte 2 on surrounding areas can be described as follows:

Vicinity of Westvoorne
When viewed from the beach at Westvoorne, Maasvlakte 2 is hidden behind the Slufter (a sludge depot). This is the result of the decision to retain the open character of the mouth of the Haringvliet. In the future, the Slufter will be used for nature conservation and recreation purposes.

Vicinity of Goeree
During the day, Maasvlakte 2 will be visible from the beach at Goeree. The newly reclaimed land will adjoin the western side of the existing Maasvlakte and be located 12 kilometres away from Goeree. At night, Maasvlakte 2, like the existing Maasvlakte, will be visible due to the light it radiates.

Vicinity of Schouwen- Duiveland
From the western beach at Schouwen-Duiveland, Maasvlakte 2 will be only barely visible. The newly reclaimed land will adjoin the western side of the existing Maasvlakte; this is around 25 kilometres away from Schouwen-Duiveland. At night, Maasvlakte 2, like the existing Maasvlakte, will be visible due to the light it radiates.

Vicinity of Hoek van Holland
Maasvlakte 2 will not be prominently visible from Hoek van Holland and ’s-Gravenzande. During the day, much of the newly reclaimed land will be screened from view by the existing Maasvlakte. At night, Maasvlakte 2, like the existing Maasvlakte, will radiate light.
