Maasvlakte 2 will radiate light at night. Just as at the existing Maasvlakte, work will continue there day and night. Much of the light being produced at Maasvlakte 2 will come from the container terminals. The nature of the activities there requires the use of bright lamps located at great heights. The chemical industry uses light as well but of a different intensity and colour. 

Unlike the norms set for sound levels and air quality, there are no legal norms for light pollution or visibility. Nevertheless, research is now being conducted into ways to minimise light pollution as much as possible.
