Maasvlakte 2 at Maritime Museum
05-08-2007There is not yet any evidence of it at the Rotterdam coast, but Maasvlakte 2 can already be viewed at the Maritime Museum!
A few months ago the future port and industrial area has been added to the entirely renewed port presentation entitled "MainPort Live" at the Maritime Museum Rotterdam. Made entirely of glass, the Maasvlakte 2 "floats" above its future location in the waters of the North Sea.
MainPort Live is a fascinating multi-media presentation about the Rotterdam port. It highlights all facets of the port - both present and past - in a contemporary fashion. With this presentation the museum reinstates the international port in the heart of Rotterdam...
In addition to Maasvlakte 2 being added, other parts of the presentation were also updated. New films were created and the lighting and sound were greatly improved. A time navigator in the Control Room now enables the user to retrieve thousands of digital images as well as historical images, maps and dozens of film and audio fragments. Ships in the port can be followed in "real time" as they wait near Hoek van Holland or sail inside the port area. MainPort Live allows every visitor to experience the rhythm of the port.
