Announcement of intention to award contract

The independent Commission for EIA has concluded that the Environmental Impact Assessment of the Maasvlakte 2 project gives a good picture of the environmental effects of the construction and operation of the port expansion.

The first container terminal to go into operation on Maasvlakte 2 will be run by a consortium consisting of stevedore DP World and four shipping companies: New World Alliance (MOL, Hyundai and APL) and CMA CGM.

Preparations for construction of Maasvlakte 2

There is not yet any evidence of it at the Rotterdam coast, but Maasvlakte 2 can already be viewed at the Maritime Museum!

The European Commission has today decided not to raise any objections to the contribution of the Dutch State to the Rotterdam Mainport Development Project.

The Rotterdam municipal council has approved the preliminary plans for Maasvlakte 2.

The Rotterdam Mainport Development Project (PMR) is going according to schedule, according to the first progress report on the project to Parliament. The half-yearly progress report is a way to keep MPs up to speed on the progress of (the component projects of the) PMR.

Last week, an archaeological investigation was carried out on the area in the North Sea where Maasvlakte 2 is to be located, starting next year.

This week, the Maasvlakte 2 Project Organization is participating in Aquaterra 2007, the new World Forum on Delta and Coastal Development. Aquaterra is being held in the RAI Amsterdam from 7 through 9 February.
