Documentary: Op z'n Hollands (The Dutch Way)
Op z'n Hollands was shown for the first time on 27 september 2009 during the Netherlands Film Festival in Utrecht. Op z'n Hollands is a kaleidoscopic film that makes tangible the tension between individual and collective interests that played a role during the complex decision-making process surrounding Maasvlakte 2.

Op z'n Hollands
The documentary (in Dutch only) is shown every Sunday at 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. in the film room on the ground floor. Admission is free. More information about Op z'n Hollands.

Temporary exhibitions in the YangtzeZaal

Rerun: Dorothée Meyer exhibition
Dorothée MeyerIn 2007, Dorothée Meyer made a photograph record of the preparations for the work carried out on Maasvlakte 2: the first changes on location.

She stayed in the area for months, constantly waiting for the right light. Her work can be seen in the YangtzeZaal from Tuesday 17 November to early January.

Portscapes: Paulien Oltheten
Also shown in the YangteZaal, until the start of January, are two videos by artist Paulien Oltheten. In the spring and summer of 2009, she walked and cycled in the area, recording all kinds of situations and activities with her camera. By photographing people during a normal day's work at the existing Maasvlakte for instance, and zooming in on remarkable details. Sometimes she asked people to repeat an action. A short video showing you how Paulien Oltheten operates can also be viewed in the YangtzeZaal. You can find a number of billboards depicting her work in the direct environs of FutureLand. The map shows you the location of the billboards that you can view in the area.

On the terrace - Awash in words

Woorden in de brandingTen Rotterdam poets, including Jules Deelder, Carrie, Wilfried de Jong, Rien Vroegindeweij and Daniël Dee, have written a poem (in Dutch) about Maasvlakte 2 and the Rotterdams port. The poets read from their own work. After dialling one of the telephone numbers on ten pillars that surround the terrace of FutureLand, passers-by and visitors to FutureLand can listen to the recitals via their mobile phone. Would you like to listen to the poems from your easy chair? Call +31(0)900-512 12 12.

Maria Barnas' contribution is in English. Her poem can be listened to after selecting option 1 in the menu.

The costs for listening to the poem are 15 cents per minute, not including the costs for the use of your (mobile) telephone. While listening to the poem, you can return to the main menu by pressing the hash key.

En route and around FutureLand

Put on your headphones
Would you like to take a moment's break during your visit to FutureLand? That's possible. Enjoying a cup of coffee or strolling along the beach, just put on your headphones and listen to a fascinating story about the many issues involved in creating a new piece of land. A wealth of information, combined with historical facts and imaginative narrative ensure that you will have an enjoyable 45 minutes of listening. Too long? You can also listen to segments of the presentation.

Artist Ilana Halpering (Scotland) was commissioned by the port of Rotterdam Authority/Project Organization Maasvlakte 2 and Foundation Art and Public Space (SKOR) to compile this story. The audio tour can be obtained from the reception desk, with a driving license or similar document serving as a (temporary) security deposit. It is available in Dutch and English.

Gallery along Europaweg
The 'outdoor gallery' along Europaweg in the direction of FutureLand has once again been expanded. A new billboard was erected at the end of October.

Marjolijn Dijkman for Portscapes, 2009: Here be Dragons.

In the context of the Portscapes art project, as of June 2009, an 'outdoor gallery' is gradually taking shape on billboards that line Europaweg in the direction of FutureLand. The first billboard to be placed, in June, was 'The Arrival' by the Austrian artist Hans Schabus, followed in August by 'One becomes two' by Paulien Oltheten. As of 1 October, a drawing by Jorge Satorro (Mexico) is up on display, in which he depicts the return to Scandinavia of an ice age stone that has been in the Netherlands for centuries. The latest billboard to be added shows work by Marjolijn Dijkman, who allowed herself to be inspired by medieval cartographers' practice of naming the still unknown world: 'Here Be Dragons'.
