What is an Environmental Impact Assessment? (MER)
Why does the decision-making process take so long?
Yes. On 10 October 2006, Dutch parliament approved the development plan for Maasvlakte 2 by a large majority. The plan was subsequently reconfirmed in the Dutch Upper House on 20 November 2006. This has opened the way to realise the project’s next phase: a number of spatial planning procedures and permit procedures that need to run their course in 2007, so that actual construction can get underway in 2008.
